upcoming lkp dates!

This was one for the record books.  Ever have a great time three days in a row, and have everyone around you have a great time?  This was the case, baby!  Thursday was a great night at the Brimmer, with our “acoustic” night – which really needs to be called a stripped night, because the crowd is there to dance, and we can’t just do Jim Croce tunes and expect everyone to have a good time. So, it’s upbeat, and fun and packed!  We love having a Thursday that acts like a weekend night, and we thank the Brimmer for making it happen.  After a night like that, we turn to a Friday night at one of our oldest haunts.  The Anchorage started a little quiet for dinner, and we thought that the rainy weather might keep the folks away from our one dockside gig.  Boy were we mistaken!  The Anchorage packed itself up to capacity, and the dancers were out in force.  If you have never been to this bar, it is a restaurant in the front, where the band plays, the kitchen is in the middle, and the bar is in the back, so there are 2 rooms connected by a long hallway of seating along the water.  Needless to say, getting from one end to the other was quite the task with all the people packed in there. We had a fantastic time, and couldn’t possibly expect to have the third gig of the week compare to the other 2.  I guess we were right.  Our dear friends Berni and Arti got married on Saturday, and their wedding more resembled a night club with all the dancing and fun that we had.  Several new stage records were set, and we tested the limit of how many people can sing and dance on a 16 x 10 stage!  Just unbelievable.  We thank the newlyweds for having us, and keeping us on our toes!

This week is the abbreviated week in comparison, and we will crank it out on Friday only.  Due to a schedule conflict, we will only be able to do Friday night at Whippersnappers, and Saturday will be another one of the fine Whips bands.  So, don’t be confused, and come out only once, come out to see 2 bands at Whips, and enjoy a great weekend. We will be looking forward to our Friday night festivities and hope that you can come out and play.

This week’s awards go to….

The Napoleon Dynamite award goes to Natalie for hitting me with some of the classic lines from that movie, and cracking me up.  I like your sleeves, they’re real big…..

The sweaty Betty award goes to Steve for dancing to almost every song, and challenging my status as the candidate for most likely to melt!

The “yeah, right” award goes to the chief of police from Sunapee, and the liquor inspector for coming to the Anchorage on Friday, and suggesting that everyone needed to be seated.  OK, we’ll get right on that.

The Tenacious award goes to the entire wedding party who ended the wedding festivities with us from the stage, singing their hearts out.

The sax attack award goes to Arti’s mom for coming up and playing some serious music!

And the narcolepsy award goes to Rachel for finding her jammies and a place to crash at the wedding after party.  Sleep, o tired one!

We had a great time at the annual Pig roast, bull riding and general crazy time that is Gusto’s in September. Between watching all those willing to get on the bull and get tossed, and the fine vittles, there wasn’t much room for anything but dancing. The temps were great for being warm inside, and cool outside, and the smoke was gone! I don’t mean to pick on the smokers out there, but the difference when you are singing is huge! So, we say goodbye to another state that has moved in the way of clean air, and hope that New Hampshire is next. My cousin Lori is an advocate for Tobacco Free Kids in the northeast, and she mentioned being part of the push to continue the national trend towards smoke free workplaces. Well, the more I play in rooms that have followed suit on the removal of smoking, the more I want to see it gone everywhere we play. It has not had a negative impact on business, and considering how much better I feel at the end of the night, don’t be surprised if you see me standing on my soap box and helping out a good cause. We had 2 fantastic nights in Barre, and are looking forward to some more double shots in that room in the future. Special thanks to Jeannie and Gary for being the host/hostess with the most and setting us up with some swank new band digs to hang out in!

This week looks like another crazy one, we will be doing three nights in and around NH, and enjoying every minute of it. Thursday gives us the Brimmer, Friday returns us to an old favorite for an end of season bash at the Anchorage in Sunapee, and Saturday gives way to a great little wedding. We hope to see you when and where you can, and get ready for a single night at whippersnappers next weekend. I screwed up a conflict that one of the guys had on Saturday, so we will ONLY be playing on Friday the 23rd at Whips and will be taking Friday off. That means maybe going out to see another band on Saturday! Cool, we can catch up with a bunch of people that we never get to see!

This week’s awards go to:

The band house from heaven award goes to Jeannie and Gary for making room for all us band guys and girls in their new headquarters!

The Bob Barker award goes to the national average gas prices and their current trend – come on down!

The fall is here award goes to mother nature for giving us some great night time temps to work and play in!

And the narcolepsy award goes to bill, he got his head to the pillow first!

upcoming lkp dates!

Yowza!  What a great long weekend of gigs!  I was seriously worried that 4 nights in a row, and some different versions of the band might make for the rapid disappearance of my voice, but all seemed to hang together for a great labor day weekend!  It all started with a great night at Whippersnappers on Thursday.  Thursday nights can be hit or miss, but this one was a champ.  Great crowd energy, and a bunch of fun loving folks out on a weeknight to have some fun.  Thanks to Drew, Bob, and all the fantastic ladies from Whips for making the start of our run a killer one!  As Friday approached, we were doing something that the kid has NEVER done before – add a different member for a gig without any practice!  Bassist Rob Gourlay – Gord’s brother, picked up the bass duties so that Willis could spend some extra time with some friends visiting from far far away.  Having any musician sit in for a song or two can happen fairly easily, but learning all of our segues and transitions, and doing it with gusto was a tough thing to do.  I’ve gotta say, that Rob pulled it off like he’d been with us for years!  It doesn’t hurt that the guy is a world class player, but we didn’t have to pass on some of our favorite tunes to play just to make it “easy” for him.  He rose to the challenge, and is officially welcome any time!  As the unofficial 5th  kid, Rob helped us rock the Rusty Nail in Stowe, and have people asking “ is that a new bass player?”  Well, yes he is, and be very afraid of his abilities – as well as his stage antics!  We send out a huge thanks to Rob for making the night a great success, and making us all look really smart for picking him!

Friday rolled into Saturday, and my thoughts turned to my voice being worn down by the time we got to the end of the weekend.  I’m not sure how this works, but it got easier to sing every additional night that we did!  It was like breaking the cold out, and then having all the things that were hard for the past couple of weeks just get easier.  Gotta love it when stuff like that happens.  We hit the stage on Saturday night at the Brimmer fully expecting a crazy crowd, and that’s just what we got!  The Brimmer is always busy on the weekends, but it just seemed to be even better energy than usual.  This was true of all the gigs, tons of crowd noise, and just great energy all around.  We had a blast with the folks in Manch-Vegas, and honored some distant travelers from the real Vegas, and hope that they had as much fun with us as we had with them.  my apologies to the line out the door, my line jumping friends need to let me know when they are coming late, so I don’t have to climb out a window in the middle of a song, and serenade them from the street in to the club!  Thanks for giving me a great reason to run around like an idiot, Bill S!

The final gig of the weekend was our annual bash at Stew’s place.  In years past, it has been Stewfest, Stewstock, and this year Stewapalooza.  This year was by far the best name choice, because of all the mispronunciations and creative changes that we heard! (more on this in the awards)  with help from our buddy George Gibson who opened the show, we had a blast!  Chicken wing Bob held court with his wings and huge hunk of meat, and all the other foodstuffs that were there were amazing!!  The dinner crowd seemed a little smaller than usual, so we were expecting a quiet night.  Boy were we wrong.  As the sun set, and we started to play, the folks came out of the woodwork!  The beach was packed, and the dancers were going crazy.  Once again, the energy was unbelievable.  Thanks for everything, Stew, Marilyn, and the rest of the beach crew that made it all happen.  From bar dancing to little kids rolling in the sand, it was a great time.

This week hooks us up with a two-fer in Barre at Gusto’s for their pig roast weekend. Come and ride the bull.  Also, get ready for an acoustic night at the Brimmer next week, and a return to the Anchorage in Sunapee for a killer Friday!  Here come the awards and official date stuff!

This week’s awards go to…

The million dollar baby award goes to Mamma on Thursday for shaking her thing better than a boxer working on the speed bag!

The trained professional on closed road award goes to Rob Gourlay, do not attempt the speed and accuracy with which this man wields his bass!

The champagne room is open award goes to Bill S. for his excellent timing at the crowded door of the Brimmer!

The best name overheard on Sunday was a tie – Stewapalooza = stupid loser = stew’s a big loser = stupid boozer!

And the narcolepsy award goes to the late night crowd at the Red Arrow Diner on Sunday morning – need more sleepy!

upcoming lkp dates!

Another crazy week, great gigs on last Friday and Saturday, and enough vitamins to kick the cold that should have been hanging out in February!  The Yard was a test, and proved that we could have a decent crowd on a Friday in a room that usually doesn’t do Fridays as much.  We thank all the die hards for coming out and having fun with us!  Next we give a big thanks to Steve, Renee, Jane and Mike for throwing a wild party!  From a 42 pound turkey and a whole pig, to some great single malts and killer desserts, we had a blast, and totally enjoyed playing for the widest age range we have in a while.  A good time was had by all, and the weather was perfect.

This week is our busiest in a few whiles, and throws in some curve balls, as well as a couple of fast balls out over the plate.  Tonight we continue the Thursday trend with a night at Whippersnappers.  This is an 8:30 to 11:30 show, and dinner and dancing is highly recommended.  Come early, stay…well, early.  An easy night to come out and have fun, and not have it ruin your Friday.  Speaking of Friday, this is a once in forever gig for us.  Gord’s brother Rob will be filling in on bass as Bill takes a night to catch up with some friends from out of town.  Rob has not been at the Rusty Nail since the night it burned down.  A triumphant return, if I may say so, and we’re totally looking forward to the twists and turns that Rob is sure to bring.  If you get the chance, this is a not to miss gig!  Friday rolls into Saturday, and we return to the Brimmer in Manchester, with about a month since the last time we were there, it feels like forever.  It should be another one for the record books!  Speaking of records, the Stewstock of last year has become Stewapalooza this year.  The hottest party on Lake Sunapee, follow the sound of the music for a great party.  Tix are $25 for food, music and fireworks, and we hope to see you there!

            This week’s awards go to…

The fifth Beatle award goes to Scott for his help on Friday night with sound and lights

The crazy girl award goes to the whole group of girls from Forever 21 that graced Friday night’s gig.

The artistic license award goes to Steve who chainsawed the kid into a log, and that was the fifth Beatle on Saturday night.

The host and hostess with the mostest award goes to Jane, Mike, Steve and Renee for putting together a crazy night.

And the narcolepsy award goes to all the kids who stayed up way past their bedtime to dance and have fun.
