Hey kids, happy turkey day!  This week is full of a ton of gigs and fun, so let’s get right to it.

I apologize for the confusion on the Saturday night gig last week, I must have been high when I booked stuff, and mistakenly put that date at the yard in.  If you missed us, we will make it up to you in December with a Friday to remember at the yard, so keep an eye out for it.  Friday at the Eagle was a mellow, close to home gig, that gave us a chance to catch up with some old friends, and have some fun.  Thanks to all who came out and danced and enjoyed the clear, crisp night.

This week has us surrounding the holiday with a couple of nights at Gusto’s, then finishing off the weekend at the Lucky dog.  We have been doing the thanksgiving double header for the past few years, and it’s always great to see old and new friends.  Keep an eye out for some new lkp gear, so bring a couple extra bucks for some swag for the holidays.

The start of Christmas parties comes up on us soon, and we have some exciting/disappointing news.  The disappointment is that the Underground in St. Johnsbury is closing after a short stint as a new night club.  It’s too bad that St. J. couldn’t support a cool night spot, and we’ll have to tip our hats to them for the fun that we had, and thank them for their hospitality.  The flip side is that we now have Friday, December 9th open for booking.  If you are interested in booking the kid for your private function, or at your favorite bar, email me or call me, and we’ll set it up.

A new cause that I am standing firmly behind is making NH smoke free.  My cousin Lori is a honcho with the Campaign for Tobacco free Kids, and they are doing their part to help NH to follow the rest of New England and go smoke free.   I notice such a huge difference in the clubs that we play that no longer have smoking.  More air, better voice, less strain, and no smelly bag full of clothes and stuff when you get home!  The campaign is having an informational session at the Backroom in Manchester on Wednesday, November 30 at 5:30 pm. Check out the info below if you are interested and see you there!  It’s something we can all live with.

THE AWARDS WILL BE ON HIATUS UNTIL NEXT WEEK SO I CAN COME UP WITH SOME DOOZIES!

upcoming lkp dates!

Well, let it be said that new rooms sometimes make all the difference.  There’s nothing like returning to an area, and having a great, interested and happy crowd come out to see us play.  Shenanigans was a blast to start off the weekend, and we thank Naomi, Meredith and the rest of the crew for taking great care of us and letting us have fun!  We’ll be back when we can fit a date in with all the ski area work we are doing this winter!  Friday flew by, Saturday returned us to the Brimmer for some, well, shenanigans!  We had a capacity crowd that steamed the windows and danced all night.  Thanks all so much for being fun and enjoying yourselves, even when it is that crowded.  We played, the night disappeared, and now we’ll just have to wait to do it again.

This weekend gives us some more fun with a little spot that I call close to home, and one of the biggest rooms we play.  Friday hits downtown Newport, NH for a return to the Eagle Tavern.  Seating is limited, so come early, have dinner and fill this place up for a pre-thanksgiving bash!  Saturday sees the Yard as our next stop, for killer food, huge seating and dance floor, and lots of fun.  If the Brimmer gets too packed, then the Yard is for you!  We are happy to be rolling into the holiday season, because we see so many happy faces, and more old friends.  Have a great holiday and enjoy some of it with the kid!

This week’s awards go to …

The long distance award goes to Jason D for making it all the way from san Francisco to catch us at shenanigans!

The new talent award goes to the guy who decided that across the stage was the best way to the other side of the room.  Your 15 seconds of fame are up!

The dirty dancing award goes to several ladies on Friday that maybe should have gone into the strip club next door!

The audio adjust award goes to me, shenanigans needs some different break music than I played to pack the dance floor.  Oops!

The narcolepsy award goes to me.  Sleepy Sunday!

And the answer to the question “but can they sing”? is a resounding NO!  This is a real TV show?  These people expect to be taken seriously?  It should be voted for best new comedy!

This is it! (imagine Kenny Loggins and Michael MacDonald singing that classic)  We’re back in the upper valley for a night, and we hope you will all make it out to play with us!  Shenanigans in white river junction has opened their stage to us so we can have a blast in the area we cut our teeth.  Please, if you have no other pressing plans, I’d love to turn this in to old home/crazy nut weekend.  I know of one old friend from the west coast who may just make it, and we’ll see who else comes out of the woodwork.  Tell all your friends, and bring your dancing shoes, and then we can bowl and, um, do other stuff there as well!  It should be a killer weekend with shenanigans Friday, and the Brimmer on Saturday to round out the weekend.  Plan on having a good time, and your positive attitude will make it happen!

This past weekend was by far the busiest we have seen at Whippersnappers in a while, 2 nights, a bunch of different folks and a fantastic time.  We thank all the staff at Whips for making us feel great, happy and loved.  Drew and the crew kept the crazies either on or off the stage, and Friday held it down in the kitchen with some of the finest food around.  It always amazes me how different and how great the specials are there!  I can’t say enough about another fun weekend at a fantastic place to hang!

This coming weekend as mentioned above returns us to the upper valley at shenanigans, and then Saturday back to the Brimmer in manch.  We hope that you all can come out and have some fun with us as we get closer to thanksgiving.  As we get closer to winter, it always feels like time is moving faster to me, and the gigs just fly by.  Maybe it’s because we have about 5 hours of daylight, and the day is gone before you know it.  Well, that’s an even better reason to have fun at night, since there is more of it!

This week’s awards go to:

The lost in space award goes to Friday night’s stage rushing guy that wouldn’t take no for an answer.  Um, have a good night, and we’ll see you later.

The fun loving crowd award goes to the group on Saturday that had to try the LKP thongs, and have a great time doing it.  We’ll get the pictures up soon!

The goodbye award goes to Sunday which disappeared before I knew it!

The solid gold dancer award goes to Mamma and Tiffy lovah for shaking it like they know it!

The narcolepsy award goes to Mrs. Willis who must have been tired after all that dancing!

upcoming lkp dates!

Halloween has come and gone, and it was one for the record books.  The moron award goes to me for leaving the camera on top of my amp and not taking more pictures!  There were some of the best costumes I have seen in years at both of the gigs that we played, and it was fantastic to see the turnouts we had at a new club, and the local room that is the best stage in town.  The Underground in St. Johnsbury is starting off as one of our new favorites, big room, elevator to load all the stuff in, and a huge clean bar with tons of seating, games and fun.  Thanks to all the guys who helped us load it all in (and out) and made the night a huge success.  The numbers at the Opera house were borderline crazy.  About 400 people showed up over the course of the night to hang out and celebrate Halloween with us, and they did it in style.  A couple of flashers, a couple of dicks, and some very entertaining costumes filled the place to capacity.  Thanks to Dave, Charles and the opera house staff for making this a huge success!  We will be back to do this again next year!

My biggest problem with dressing up for Halloween is being able to be comfortable in my costume.  Over the years we have tried to be creative, and still be comfy.  This year I failed miserably!  Jason rocked it out as Hermey from Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, bill was Sam the snowman, Gord was a gord in the box one day and santa the next, and I was Yukon Cornelius.  Yukon is dressed for, well, the Yukon, and I was about to pass out after about one song.  So, off came the costume, and I guess I was a punk rocker with my red suspenders and boots, shorts and a T.  The face paint didn’t even stick, and was gone in about a minute.  Maybe sweaty guys just can’t do face paint.  Good for me.  If you saw the costumes, you were there early, and this was one of the few years that we didn’t get a group photo, so no posterity on this year.  We had a blast despite the wardrobe malfunctions, and I think we’ll all be ready for beach bum or something a little more temperature friendly in years to come.

This week has us finally doing a full weekend at whips.  We have been there for 2 single nights in the past months, and we are ready for the full on 2 day fiesta that is Whippersnappers.  Come on down and have a blast with us this weekend, and roll into a November to remember!  We’ll be psyched to have a 2 day run so we can leave the behemoth set up and just come back to enjoy it on Saturday.  Next week is another new club for us, and it’s in the back yard we haven’t played in in a while.  Shenanigans in White River Junction, VT has been around for a number of years, but we have always played on the other side of the river.  We will be taking the stage at Shenanigans Friday night, November 11, and hope that all the old friends from the upper valley will come out and play with us!  It should be a blast, and we look forward to the chance to play in the upper valley again.  Saturday rolls on with another night at the Black Brimmer, which always makes us smile.  The Brimmer has really become our home bar, considering none of us have lived in Manch vegas in the past, they always make us feel like we’re home.

Last week’s sad news that Bill is moving on made us face the hard situation of finding his replacement.  Well, the ball is officially rolling, and we have found our new secret weapon.  After negotiations this week, bassist, vocalist, and all around good fish Eric Stone will be joining the ranks of LKP after the first of the year.  Eric has obligations with his current band One Eye Open through New Years Eve, and we will be getting him up to speed on our stuff along with a bunch of new tunes that always are involved with transitions.  Eric and I played together years ago in the Reactors, timing was in our favor this time around, and Eric was up for the deal.  We are sad to see Bill go, we are happy to see Eric join, and we hope that the transition will be as smooth as in years past.  Don’t be surprised to see a big bald guy hanging around with us, he may just be the new guy you scream song requests at!

This week’s awards go to:

The forgotten hero award goes to Lyle at Batchelder Brothers tire and auto for hanging around and putting another tire on the band truck.  Thanks for being there!

The best costume use goes to the 2 “dicks” that came up and danced during big balls on Saturday.  Priceless.

The best dinner award goes to the Old Courthouse for providing everything down to the salt and pepper for me to take along with my take out dinner!

The who are you award goes to Stew for being mysterious and costumed up to deceive!

And the narcolepsy award goes to the SO’s that slept off load out in the green room on Saturday.
