upcoming lkp dates and gord's last weekend

As 10 years have passed, we have reached the actual anniversary for the decade of the Kid. Per his wishes to move on and try some other things, Gordy will be performing in his final 2 gigs with the band this weekend. It has been a decade of many changes, and the one consistent thing that has been throughout the years is Gord behind the drumset. We wish him the best, and hope that he enjoys his future endeavors, whatever they may be. So, the transition period begins for the new skin man…

Some of you may have met him as he has been shadowing at gigs for a few weeks, but here it is, the introduction of Mr. Kyle Flewelling – the second drummer for the Kid, and we hope for equal longevity! Kyle is a Newport, NH boy with a passion for hitting round things and shiny things. We look forward to the years to come with this new Kid in the driver’s seat!

Now, with all that being said, we had a wild and wooly one this past weekend, with sunshine, snow, sleet, freezing rain, and moose (had to get the wooly in there somewhere). Friday night at the Nail was a little slower than usual, but power outages in the area, high winds and crazy weather will change a lot of people’s minds about travel. We had a blast at the Nail as always, and then headed northeast. Saturday was probably the best crowd we have ever had at the Outback, and we will have to remember that the first weekend of Moose season is a good time to play up there. The roads were clear of moose, because they were more often seen in the back of trucks, or on trailers! Wow, some big buggers were seen on Sunday morning on the way home at the weigh-in station in Pittsburg. We made it home safe and sound, and only saw some foxes in our late night travels. Thanks to all the Elmer Fudd’s for keeping the roads moose free!

Here are this week’s awards:

The chemistry award goes to the band that stayed at the Nail band house the week before us. Not sure what was in the sink, but it didn’t smell too good. Also, one of the band members must have been Chewbacca considering what was in the bathroom sink! Which brings us to award #2 –

The safe haven in the night award goes to the Comfort Inn in St. Johnsbury, VT. Clean beds and bathrooms, and late checkout if you arrive at 5am!

The big meat award goes to Matt and the staff at the Outback for a killer steak!

The unbelievable breakfast sandwich award goes to the Outback/Spa as well. 2 eggs, cheese, and bacon on a huge croissant. Wow!

The persistence award goes to our Poison advocate on Saturday night!

The idiot award goes to me, because I forgot to announce the birthday for the girls up from Mass on Saturday night! Oops!

And the narcolepsy award goes to Eric for sleeping so soundly that he broke the bed.

lkp upcoming dates!

Well, here I am the Friday morning quarterback again! Since I have a tendency to ramble, I’ll try to keep it sweet today, and nail out the details, without getting too wordy. This past weekend was a killer! With 2 gigs with great crowds and enormous energy, we were totally stoked up for having fun both nights. Our dancers were in full effect, and the positive energy far outweighed any negative. We had so much fun, it made the late night drives go by easily, and our stage antics hopefully increased due to the fun! Thanks to the folks at Gusto’s and the Yard, and we’re off for a ton of fun this weekend as well!

This weekend is a northern
Vermont and NH tour that will keep us on our toes! Tonight is the Rusty Nail, our favorite stage and setup in any of the bars we play. It’s big, has a huge dance floor, tons of seating and bar space, and great food to boot. We like it all. Come out tonight and join us in the mayhem! Tomorrow gives us the top of the world when we return to the Outback in West Stewartstown. We love it, and we’ll see you there tomorrow. Bring your flannel and your truck, it’s almost winter up there!

Next weekend is Halloween weekend, and we’re looking at a crazy one. We haven’t discussed with the Brimmer if it will be a costume party on Friday, but we’ll assume that there will be some costumes! I’ll find out for sure if we’re going full on with the double costume nights. Saturday is our annual costume party at the Newport Opera House in Newport, NH. These tickets sold out in less than 24 hours, and there are truly none to be had. This is a 21+ show, and there will be extremely tight security due to the large demand for tickets. We may just have to find a bigger place to do Halloween since 300 isn’t enough! We’ll think about it for next year…

lkp upcoming dates!

For those of you who played with us at whips last weekend, you know that we were having a lot of fun, and cracking ourselves up on stage. Hopefully our fun translates at least some of the time to the audience, and you can laugh with us (or at us). It’s all about having a great time, and holding on to some good memories. As Friday and the rest of the folks at whips always take great care of us, and feed us extremely well, we enjoy passing along our words of thanks and praise for their work. With that being said, we look forward to our next time there to enjoy some more lobster rangoons!

This coming weekend is a 3 fer, starting on Thursday night. I actually am getting to the news a couple of days earlier than weeks past so as to not miss our first gig making the update! We are closing down the Anchorage in Sunapee for another year, and we thank them for having us be the end all band for the past few years. The Ank has always been a blast, and for a smaller room, we always have a great time. Thanks to Glenn and Karlie for taking great care. We’ll see you there tomorrow, and then next season! The rest of the weekend rolls out with out return to Barre and Gusto’s for a Friday night rush, followed by our return to the Yard in Manchester on Saturday. The Yard has the dance space and seating that some of you are looking for in the Manch area. Check it out and have a blast with us!

This week’s awards go to:

The late night snack award goes to the Red Arrow. Breakfast sandwich, anyone?

The best suggestion award goes to our Spinal Tap friends who gave us a few songs of fun later on Saturday.

The dancing fool award goes to Nate, oh wait, WHERE WERE YOU GUYS!

And the narcolepsy award goes to Keith, who had more energy than all of us.

upcoming dates!

Can you say exciting? We can. Friday was exciting because it was the next to last time at the Anchorage for this season, the last one is this coming Thursday – keep an eye out for times, because the goal is to “kick the keg” so to speak and clean out the bar for the winter. So, you can expect some unusual drink specials and plenty of other fun to close the season out. Make a note for Thursday, October 12, and make a night of it! Then here comes Saturday. We are having a fantastic gig at the Rusty Nail, tons of people, great dinner crowd, couldn’t get better – or could it? In walks Robert Randolph and his crew. For those of you who don’t recognize the name, he’s the first pedal steel player to make the cover of Guitar Player magazine. He and his buddy Joey Bizzle got up and jammed a few impromptu tunes with us at the end of the night, and then hung around and hopefully had some fun with us after hours. A great time was had by all, and all I can say is, let’s do it again! We rarely get the opportunity to share the stage with someone of his stature, and we look forward to seeing him again soon, and having some fun. Thanks to the limo crew for the pix that we should have on the website soon! It was a little slice of heaven for all of us, and reminds us that you never know…..

So thanks to all that were playing with us and lasted to the wee hours to have a little extra fun. This weekend brings us back to whips for a 2 nighter. We hope that the excellent turnout we had last time will transfer again to this weekend as we look forward to the better temperatures for dancing and not sweating your head off! October is a busy month as we wind down to the end of Gordo’s time behind the skins for the kid, so if you get a chance, come out and say hey, and wish him all the best. New and exciting announcements coming soon on our replacement status. It’s been a difficult process with some great drummers, but we’re getting close!

This week’s awards go to:

The paparazzi award goes to the Newport Limo crew, for some great pics, and some hilarious highjinks.

The random stage crash award goes to Robert Randolph for making our night, and making us think of other tunes to do next time!

The conversationalist award goes to Colleen, who had some interesting words of wisdom for all of us at the end of the gig on Saturday.

And the narcolepsy award goes to Jason and me, for making it to 930 service at the church we just finished a huge install at. 1 hour 20 min sleep, from Saturday am, to Sunday pm. Ouch baby!
